In total there are 3,019 emojis in the Unicode Standard as of March 2019. This includes sequences for gender or skin tone, flags, and the components that are used to create keycap, flag, and other sequences.
Of the 3,019 emojis, some may use the same appearance. For example, 🏄 Person Surfing and 🏄♂️ Man Surfing look the same on most platforms.
An additional 168 emojis have been approved for release in late 2019 which brings the total to 3,178 emojis in Emoji 12.1.
